Our bad isn't even remotely as good as their bad LOL. It's more like saying "At least there are other bad offenses in the NFL", to which I respond, "Yeah but the horrible O of the Seahawks is STILL more productive than the Rams O."
Just two games. *Deep breath* just two games. *sigh* I'm so sick of looking for bright sides with this team.
1. The Defense looks excellent and has started to answer some big questions to the affirmative:
- Can AO make the transition to MLB effectively? Sure looks good so far! Well, he looked bad... Then good. So yes, the trend is toward the good!
- How will they do without Jenks? Well, Hill had some trouble, but took some great throws to beat him and Gaines is coming back. And Sensabaugh is no longer starting. Once again, bad then good. I was really disappointed in the Secondary after the Monday opener, but Hill (not Coty) does look capable so far. Saving that TD @LA saved the game, and makes me much more ready to "trust" Hill even if he get beaten for a gainer.
2. The Offense looks bad, but they've faced two good defenses, should get some relief w/Spruce and Cooper returning this week and/or next. We're closer to seeing Goff and the hope he represents.
No sale for me. The offense has looked bad vs. a bad defense (cf. SF's following game vs. Panthers) and a good defense from SEA. This offense is in serious trouble, and I don't think Austin and Gurley will be sufficient to pull it out. However, Britt to me has been the biggest bright spot on the O so far this year. Yes he's had a couple drops, but far more he's been "clutch" too.3. Special teams looks good: Hekker is the best punter in the league and GZ's kicks were all right down the middle.
Yep. Could GZ be back? If so, we've got a key weapon.4. No significant injuries so far and potentially key guys coming back.
Knock on wood, yep. A bit disappointed with Gaines and Spruce's development being delayed by these nagging injuries, but at least it got Hill some playing time to show promise. In spite of only 9 puts scored, Rams are 1-1 - and tied for first.
You missed the most important part: A WIN AGAINST THE SEAHAWKS! And at the risk of going on about it... I was THERE and it was as I'd hoped: a defensive brawl with lots of bruiser football and a massively frustrated Petey. Good times. The arrows are all pointing up for this team! Obviously, after tomorrow we could feel different, but I hope/expect to be 2-1.
I never know what to "expect" for this team. The betting line expectation was for the Rams to win Week 1, they lost. Then to lose Week 2, they won. They've handled the Bucs in the past, but there has been a shakeup at HC since then. It's a game the Rams *should* win, I'll say that. But I don't expect anything right now except the reliably unreliable.
So you agree with me on 4 of 5 points, w/a HUGE caveat for the offense. Fair enough. So that's 4 "bright sides"! And you know what else? I think it's at least AS reasonable to suppose that the Rams will average 24 pp. going forward as to suppose that they'll continue to average, say, 7 or fewer. Put differently, however you slice it, I am comfortable predicting that this offense WILL do better than it has so far, starting tomorrow. Just as 2 years ago when they had a sack after 5 games, it was completely predictable that they'd do MUCH better than that moving forward.
