I think it's bogus.

A better way to look at this is that the Eagles quite obviously have been impressed by Wentz from the day he stepped foot into the building. They maintained that they weren't planning to start him any time soon, and they probably meant that......for a short while. But it was Wentz himself who changed that thinking and when the opportunity presented itself to get him on the field sooner than later, they jumped on it.

It is probably closer to the truth to say had Bridgewater not gone down, the only reason Bradford would have been starting for the Eagles and Wentz not was the 2nd round pick they gave up for him and the $20M they didn't want to see languishing on the bench along with his trade value.

Even if the investment in Bradford is the only reason he would be starting, Wentz still wouldn't be. Thus, the premise you're trying to refute isn't bogus.

Your "better" way of looking at it is entirely speculation. Maybe they are super impressed with him, maybe it's another reason such as being blown away with the price they got for Bradford.

No one really knows. All we know is, if Bridgewater doesn't go down, Bradford doesn't get traded and Wentz is sitting as originally asserted. I think the better way of looking at it is to stick as closely to the facts as we can without going into speculative reasoning.

The "if " game is ridiculous rationalization on its face. Saying IF the Eagles just hadn't traded Bradford, Wentz wouldn't be starting is the same as saying IF only the Rams had traded Keenum and Mannion, Goff would be starting. The inescapable truth is, the Eagles wanted Wentz to start and they made that happen. The Rams do not want Goff to start...or even play, so they've made 3rd string happen.

My better way is not "entirely speculation." It's reasoned inferences based on the Eagles actions and information at hand, which is far more useful than convenient and inconsistent rationalizations. The Eagles never wanted Bradford to be anything but a short term place holder. They went out and paid Daniel a lot of money to come in and be both the short term insurance policy for Bradford plus the long term backup who could help teach other QB's in the room Pederson's offense. They were initially planning to let Wentz sit and learn for a while behind Bradford because they weren't counting on him picking the offense up faster than Bradford and being ready as soon as he was. But after he did and when he was, they didn't hesitate to clear the path for him. The Rams could have cleared the path for Goff too. In fact, they didn't really put much of an obstacle in front of him that needed clearing. Refute the truth of any of that if you like.
