For all you Los Angeles Rams fans out there, here’s your fair warning. Not only will running back Todd Gurley not receive 30 carries per game (which would be unbelievable), but he also doesn’t want 30 carries either.

In a story by Bleacher Report’s Dan Pompei, Gurley opened up about the 2016 season, the Rams running game and also his role as a pass-catcher in the team’s offense this season.

Obviously, one interesting quote came when Gurley spoke about the potential of receiving 30 carries a game, something that he made known he has no interest in.

“Nobody wants to carry the ball 30 times a game,” Gurley said. “It’s not the 1980s no more.”

But for all you fantasy football players who might be freaking out a little, the good news is that he’ll be more involved in the passing game, something that he seems pretty excited about.

“It’s cool getting more involved in the passing game,” Gurley said. “Better than having 11 guys coming straight at you when you are running the ball. You get to at least avoid a couple hits.”

Gurley isn’t wrong here, it’s not the 1980s anymore, and the NFL has become a pass-heavy league. Unfortunately for him, head coach Jeff Fisher isn’t a big believer in the whole pass-first offense, so that’s going to keep Gurley pretty busy when it comes to his work running the ball in 2016.

Don’t be shocked to see Fisher run Gurley until the Rams are either behind, or until someone figures out a way to slow the second-year running back down.

I think the sub-text here is "concussion." Maybe not. But that's what I'm reading. He's a smart kid to NOT want to go there, to the degree possible, and to take care of his health instead. And I really, really hope Fisher ends his stubbornness regarding the running game. Get Gurley out on the wing to catch passes and he's going to score. He has home-run speed, obviously. He actually ran a much faster 100 meters in school than Austin. Get him out there "in space" as often as possible and try to prolong his career with "judicious" usage.

In 13 games Gurley's 3 heaviest-load games saw him carry 30, 25, and 24 times. 8 of 13 times he didn't get to 20. And I imagine Fisher feels as good about his backups as most of us do and he says that TA will get a lot more touches. Course, if the O can keep the ball more and the D can force more punts more quickly, Rams O will get more touches than last year. But Fisher gives EVERY indication of wanting to keep Gurley healthy.
