Elmgrovegnome with some interesting views on Rams receiving depth…

Here’s Elmgrovegnome…

So much depends on what they think about - Jefferson, Harris, Atwell and Skowronek.

Jefferson is a solid number 3/4 receiver. Hes got his limitations, like body catching and not fighting for the ball but he's able to get open and has enough downfield speed to be a threat. Right now he is clearly the number 3 receiver.

Skowronek is a good fourth receiver. He's better short and intermediate, than he is going long. He is a big body that can block well and run after the catch. He still has some learning to do, like not stopping to catch a ball on a crossing route, but he seems to be a 7th round steal.

Atwell is really a wait and see at this point, but if Stafford prefers bigger, taller receivers, then does he fit? Where does he fit? Hes fighting for number four or five. If OBJ does sign then hes fighting to be number 6 or 7. If he could push to get ahead of Jefferson that would be amazing.

Harris this is where it could get interesting. Harris has great size, speed and jumping ability. If he can learn to be an NFL receiver he could be deadly and move up into the number 3 spot, or end up fighting for 6/7 with Atwell. He was a fourth round pick. I hope he can develop ito something before his fourth year. Year two would be outstanding.

Trying to reason this out I'd say signing Allen Robinson, means they are not counting on Harris or Atwell. One of them has to vault past Skowronek to even see the field as it is now. If they sign OBJ, then Skowronek is fighting for snaps with Jefferson. Its a glut. What does it mean? I'm guessing if they push very hard for Beckham, then that means they either want an elite three man corps or they don't believe in any of last years picks. Or, they signed Robinson because they either think they won't be able to sign Beckham or he's Beckham's replacement and insurance to keep them from being desperate to sign Odell and grossly overpaying him. It feels like, if they sign Odell, then Jefferson becomes trade bait. He's too good to sit.

If the Rams don't draft a Tight End in this draft it says that they believe in Blanton or Hopkins to develop into being a good blocker. Neither could beat out Mundt in that role last year, so I'm betting against it. A blocking tight end seems to be a real need. Higbee isn't young nor the smoothest Tight End. They need insurance and the run game struggled without Higbee. Could this be a two tight end draft?
