What I saw was a veteran QB rely on McVay to call a better game and seemed to defer to McVay over his own knowledge and recognituon skill in a game that got tight and then out of hand.
Jared Goff does not have the temperment and firery approach that Stafford generally lives by and has built his reputation on. So the results were similar with 2 diffent QBs against a very game opponent.
So the common challenge is McVay struggling to get out of his own way. I felt like he was in Matt's ear most of the night especially as the wheels came off. I don't feel it was collaborative and may have added to the hesitancy that Stafford displayed
Matt is not the smoothest operator to watch. There were things he did that looked more awkward and disjointed than you expect or have seen Jared do with ease. Matt however is a leader and its like hr is a bit shackled and I think with his mindset and experience he deserves to run his own show a bit more.
Not many shots taken. Not many jump balls for contested throws. Perhaps he needs the Ex Browns WR to liven things up.
