Simply untrue?
Quote: "Xavier Smith and Drake Stoops are on the roster bubble
with Tutu Atwell likely to make the 53-man roster."
According to the writer, Tutu is likely to make the 53. Was he ever a solid #4, or a situational player and fill-in at #4 or #3, valued for his speed? I see no up, or down, for Tutu in this article.
Tutu has worked hard and broadened his game.
Whittington is valued for things he does better than Tutu - Tutu has learned to block passably well, but Whittington does it better and can clean out the middle of the field and over the course of a game, make the D pay - and he can wrestle for contested balls although he is not a speed-burner. Different receiver, different role.
Similarly, Tyler Johnson is a contested catch position-rebounder with a big catch radius - a possession receiver uses his size and strength to keep defenders off and secure catches, but he lacks anything resembling Tutu's speed.
I appreciate your fandom for Tutu and the fact that you root for him. He has improved considerably since his rookie year. But I think we've seen his upside, and while it's valuable situationally, his limitations where others have strengths are evident.
And that's not a knock on Tutu - it's simply this fan's respectfully thought-out perspective.
