When Phil Olsen left as a free agent and signed with the Broncos...the Rams got two 1976 draft picks (3rd & 6th) as compensation and the rights to Otto Stowe...

The sixth was used on RB Art Best...but there seems to be a bit of mystery regarding the 3rd round pick...The Rams only had one third round pick in 1976 and they spent that on Jackie Slater...Was that the comp pick for Phil Olsen? Just curious...I've tried to dig it out...but I can't find anything...

The trade of rights of Phil Olsen and Otto Stowe was just one pick -- 1977 6th rounder, for Art Best.

If you are referring to the 3rd rounder on Pro Sports Transactions, my opinion is they are conflating the 1975 deal with the 1974 trade of Stowe from Dallas to Denver ... that was the 1976 3rd rounder ... #75 Dallas ended with.

A paperback from 1976 called NFL Report stated it was a trade of rights of Stowe plus a 1977 6th-round pick for Phil Olsen. Honestly don't know where the 1976 3rd rounder came into it. The AP reported it as just the one pick.

I think Pro Sports Tranasction is a great site ... but on rare occasions, I have found an error or two.

Stowe, as I am sure you are aware, simply quit football that Summer ... so Rams didn't get the talented receiver (or so they thought) they were getting
