The Rams have a definite type. Look at the list. Look at last year's and the years before.
The Rams want football players, not great athletes that might eventually become good football players. They look at film and see play speed; screw 40 times. I think about Corum. Not big, not a burner or a home run hitter. All he does is play tough, powerful, smart incredibly good football and rises his highest when it matters the most.
The latest twist is they want nasty, gritty, mentally tough, physical dudes with non stop motors for the D. Leaders and a clearly less talked about attribute, mature. That's why they have no issue taking guys who will be 24 years old or guys with 5 years of college ball. They think there's a benefit to that; they are more developed, meaning they can contribute sooner; they are more mature physically and mentally. And, because of all those years, they've played a whole lot of football. Not to say that they don't take a few young guys who aren't exactly that mold; but they are the exception and not the rule.
And, I think there is some luck involved. A player they really like gets hurt and can't really show his stuff. So, he hangs around a little longer in the draft. A Kicker like Karty that Nagy says is perhaps the best to come by in the past 5 years, but somehow is still there in the 6th......something the Rams were desperate for, and there he is.
Will be exciting how some of these guys turn out when the rubber hits the road.
