And for the record I see a cornerstone player to be QB, LT, Edge, CB. Of those QB and OT are not likely to be impact selections, simply due to starters in those positions being in place for 2024. So the most likely way for the Rams to get a cornerstone impact player is Edge or CB.
Edge has been our greatest need and with AD coming off the roster it is even more pronounced. Which means I would not be surprised by a trade up, for a short distance at least.
Their offseason moves thus far do lower the need for CB. This matters, though they could easily take one if it's the best player on the board and meets that requirement. Top CBs are usually felt immediately.
It could be argued that WR is a cornerstone position now as well. And with McVay that seems particularly true given his pass game dependency. Sure, I know we have the OL to run it now. But McVay is gonna McVay and that's fine by me, I have learned to appreciate this and so if he gets a WR at 19 so be it.
My short list for 19 though is Edge and OT. With Edge it is specifically the top three guys, and I hope the Rams don't reach at 19 if they aren't on the board. With OT there are more options, with more potential I think for the Rams to maybe be higher on one than another. But if they can get out of that first pick with a cornerstone player, even if they need to say ok this OT will need to redshirt and take him with the long game in mind, I'm good.
