Re: NFL draws angry reaction from banning the ‘hip drop’ tackle next season

March 25, 2024 10:19AM
I have no problem with banning this tackling technique. It just looks dirty to me and I'm old school and always played to maim within the rules so to speak. It was just what football was in the 70's and 80's. I liked to hit hard and when I hit you I wanted you to remember it. That's just the way we all played the game. But swinging behind someone and trying to basically blow their knees out, that's not cool at all. It doesn't seem like a "natural" tackling technique, and teams I see as dirty tend to go to it ALOT. Specifically the Whiners. If they can get the definition down and make the call when it happens I'm ok with it at this time.

I suspect we'll need a full season with this new rule to evaluate it

I still say go back to old school jerseys.
