this stupid question.

not a stupid question -- but as you point out, it's not likely. The funny part is the Rams have 3 defenses.
1. The 3-4, they don't use it much. They use it when teams have a fullback (like SF) or use 2 TEs.

2, The 5-1 called "Penny" ... it has one linebacker, two edges and a now plus two DTs or DEs, whatever you want to call them

4. The 6-1, only really used when a team starts running the ball. It's 4 DLmen, and 3 LBers but the OLBers do the same as in
the 5-1... so personnel wise it's a 4-3

5. Nickel-- that has a 4-2-5, and they've been using 4 DL in this for years, though sometimes one of the edges/DEs will stand up

SO even if they did go to a 4-3, to replace the 3-4 it would only be maybe 20% of the time anyway.

But there are references in the size of the edges and finind 3 good LBers. Even 4-3 teams like the 49ers, Jets, Browns, Texans all uses the 4-2-5 more than the 4-3 anyway ...

But as far as Ramsd doing it -- I see them staying with the Fangio-based system, and they seem to like that they can rush one edge and drop the others and you don't always know which one ... and those kinds of edges would have tough time in a 4-3

Young? Hard to see him as a 4-3 DE ...and Rams have little depth at LBer, so finding three when Rozeboom is the 2nd?
