Blinkscout Edge Combine Analysis

March 11, 2024 10:18AM
I'm going to denote what scheme if I believe it matters ...

PFF grade and snap count after the names ...

We're usually not in a position where we're looking intently at this (last year, yes) ... so I'm excited about the quality and size of this class, having a pretty clear top 3, and then a lot of "types" that are gonna help a lot of teams. There are more "4-3 ends" in this class I feel but a LOT are athletic enough for some to WANT to put them at Rush Backer ... and maybe it'll work out.

Adisa Isaac Penn State 400 81.8 6-4 247, 34 inch arms. 4.74 40 1.64 split. Do we think he can play standing up?

Austin Booker Kansas 482 82.3 6-4 241 4.79 40, 34 inch arms ... I prefer him at rush LB. He's a target in the 3rd if we haven't dipped in yet. Might last longer?

Braiden McGregor Michigan 415 74.1 6-5 257 .... no numbers ... a little stiff. I prefer him moving forward, so mostly as a 3rd DE rotational piece. Late rounder ... but a needed piece I feel.

Bralen Trice Washington 925 88.2 6-3 245 ... Not bendy ... I want him as a 4-3 DE. He might look light, but he's a beast and I'm happier with him just moving forward as a power rusher.

Brennan Jackson Washington State 614 82.4 6-4 264 ... 4.69 with a 1.62 split. This is another sleeper for me. He can wreck things and he may last till the 5th. I also like him moving any direction.

Cedric Johnson Mississippi 572 66.0 6-3 260 ... 4.61 ... 38 vert ... 25 reps. So ... I have not watched him do anything but move forward ... his altheticism says you may be able to try him al LB ... his drills looked decently smooth ... I'm considering him.

Chop Robinson Penn State 303 90.8 Belle of the ball ... top athlete at the position, I'm not interested but someone will be before we get to pick 30 I'd bet.

Chris Braswell Alabama 569 81.0 6-1 255 4.60 1.59 split. Not super explosive. I think if we're looking at the position in round 2 he's going to be our best choice. He's a good off ball player and he can get into OTs against the run. I was pleasantly surprised with his speed.

Dallas Turner Alabama 647 82.3 DE2 for me. 4.46 40 and 40 inch vert ... high ceiling athlete. If I didn't like Latu so much, he'd be an easy choice for #1, and if I'm not mistaken both Dead and I were like "Yeah, Will Anderson, but we like his teammate more" ... He's a top 10 player that might get pushed by QBs and OTs ... and he'll likely be the NFLs DE1 over Latu.

Darius Robinson Missouri 515 84.0 So, this kid is not the crazy athlete his game makes him look like ... and that's okay. He played inside for two years ... then blew up outside. I think you put him in a 4-3 and move him around.

David Ugwoegbu Houston 590 65.8 Im not into it.

Eric Watts Connecticut 562 76.2 Hey ... 6-6 274. 4.67 40 ... someone needs to do something with that. He flashed in games but UCONN is not where you want to develop a guy fully. I saw some of that athleticism but was still impressed ... didn't drill as smooth as CJohson but could he play outside? 3 cone was 7.59 but that's not terrible.

Eyabi Okie-Anoma Charlotte 508 71.9 6-4 260 ... see him outside.

Gabriel Murphy UCLA 575 86.2 He's a clean player with burst that I think can stand up and play LB ... I think he (and his brother's) best football are ahead of them and they could last a while in a class that has starters through the first 3 rounds.

Jalyx Hunt Houston Christian 532 83.2 6-4 252 38 vert 4.60 ... ex safety ... 19 reps. Needs seasoning so you can't take him early.

Jared Verse Florida State 586 84.4 DE3. And his athleticism jumped him up. 6-4 254 4.58 40 31 reps ... 7.2 3 cone ... someone is going to get a great player ... I doubt he gets to us.

Javon Solomon Troy 592 91.0 6-1 246 ... 23 reps, 4.72, solid vert. So, look at the PFF grade ... and as a reminder he was the sack leader in college with over 30 career sacks. Does that always translate? No. But his burst numbers suggest he's worth a shot later. 91 PFF grade suggests he plays good football. He's not too small or too slow. Likely more ofa rotational or backup if you're fielding a champ defense, but every team needs those.
Note ... his running mate Had 1 les career sack, was not invited to the combine and is officially a LB at 230 ... worth watching for.

Javontae Jean-Baptiste Notre Dame 527 82.5 Okay, 6-5 239 ... 4.65 40 37 vert ... I wanted his 3 cone and short shuttle. He's a little stiff but if he can change direction regardless I need to know that ... as he's a little small for DE. I really just don't have a feel for him, the ND LBs did most of the work.

Jaylen Harrell Michigan 474 77.0 6-4 250 33 inch arms 37 vert. I think, more than his running mate, that he can play LB ... Michigan is sound in technique ... probably going to be in my 3rd or 4th round. Didn't run a 40 or give me a 3 cone so I can't do much with him to move him up or down.

Jonah Elliss Utah 573 84.8 6-3 248 ... He has good tape, though I didn't see as much Utah as I usually do. He didn't run so test numbers are not going to move him one way or another ... kind of guy that a team could fall for and take earlier, but I'd target around pick 100.

Justin Eboigbe Alabama 657 78.7 This is a 5 tech. Should be with DTs.

Khalid Duke Kansas State 479 74.2 I like KState players. 1.62 split is what I want even if 4.79 40 is not ... 21 reps and 34 vert are average. My guess is he'll last late but would be a worthy backup and special teamer.

Laiatu Latu UCLA 535 96.3 DE1. Is his ceiling as high asd Turner's? I don't know, but I'd venture to say that "given the way he won reps at UCLA" (Hands, angles, bend, power) his game will translate faster than anyone else's and there's no reason to think he won't see double digit sacks most of his career. 6-5 262 ... 1.62 split 4.64 40. Smooth as silk drills.
I've noted this before I think, but I'll keep saying it. When he wins, he usually doesn't just win for himself. He seems to "break the dam" in some way. LIke there were a few sacks and hits he had where half the O line was on the ground ...

Marshawn Kneeland Western Michigan 557 90.0 So, he's a 4-3 end so far ... his 3 cone and short shuttle were rather majestic though. Rare for his size. Anyone think he can drop and cover? Is he a legit 2nd round target? He's definitely a beast moving forward, I'm going to have to watch him drill again I think as I have no WMU tape. PFF grade notable since WMU plays Mich and MSt.

Mohamed Kamara Colorado State 612 86.7 PFF grade ... 6-1 248 ... amazing character. 1.58 split 4.58 40 23 reps ... kid loves football. I have to think he's a target at 83 or 100.

Myles Cole Texas Tech 570 64.9 6-6 278 4.67 40 10 broad ... he's a burst athlete, 4-3 end for me. Low PFF grade ... TTech had some issues last year ... I could see him going in the 3rd with that athleticism.

Nelson Ceaser Houston 591 73.5 6-5 250 33 inch arms good reps ... 7.3 3 cone ... I dunno I'd take him late if at al. Drills weren't bad but he was overmatched at the Senior Bowl.

Solomon Byrd USC 625 81.1 6-3 255 33 inch arms ... I have him as a kind of sleeper. I thought he played well and PFF kind of agrees. Anyone on USC gets dinged for being on USC.

Trajan Jeffcoat Arkansas 416 68.3 6-4 266 ... 4.69 40 and 10' broad. Didn't see that so good for him. 4-3 End ... he's not super bendy. Rotational DE 5th round or so.

Xavier Thomas Clemson 484 74.7 6-2 244 4.62 ... 26 reps. So ... numbers and athleticism suggest he can play standing or hand in the dirt. He was a high recruit that didn't fully develop for whatever reasons. Id look at 5th round for him ... prefer him later.

Zion Tupuola-Fetui Washington 624 66.2 6-3 244 ... more agile than Trice but not as many big splash plays ... and I don't know if he's 4-3 or 4-3 ... he's a little small for one and a little stiff for the other. Draftable? Maybe.

Okay, this concludes my Combine analysis ... I should have a mock draft up soon since FA seems to have given us directives there. Questions and comments welcome.
