I don't think Jackson is a LT. He deserves a ton of credit for gutting out a good season, given that he's not really a guy with the ideal feet for the job. But what that actually means is you got away with a subpar LT not getting your old QB killed moreso than you should double down on it happening again.
LT is a need. Thanks to Jackson it's not a huge need because worst case you can see if he can do it again. But if you're Les I am sure that LT is weighing heavily on your mind. Problem is you simply cannot count on a LT getting to you at 19. Those guys often have runs on the top names and quickly go off the board. So what I think the Rams are doing is prioritizing the cornerstone positions with a very short list of key guys they want. And that list probably looks something like this, with the assumption that everything is equal:
LT > Edge > Corner > WR.
In a worst case scenario WR will be there. Move down is also of course a possibility. But I think they will get an impact player from one of those four positions at 19.
Best case scenario is LT is there. I would like to see the Rams have a dominant front and they are very close to that. But long term Jackson is not the guy. He's not our LT of the future.
Oh also and btw... FA might change this if they can ink Smith. He's not ideal from an injury risk standpoint but the boy can ball at LT and we have a good swing OT. If that happens the order above shifts by sliding LT to the end.
