A consensus top 3 WR coming into the combine. Yes, even by me. In fact, I remember being wowed by his athleticism during testing and drills. Absolutely fell in love with this kid.
He measured 6'-2 1/2" 215 lbs.33 1/4" arms and 9 1/4" hands. Great size and length for the position.
Testing: 4.45 40, 1.51 sec 10 yard split, 36 1/2" vert, 10'-5" broad jump, 17 reps. So his explosive numbers, long speed and strength were really good.
So what happened? Injuries.
In 5 seasons with the Bears and Saints, he has a total of 27 games played, never more than 9 in a season. 28 for 397 with 0 TDs. For his career...
Injuries really derailed him in a big way.
In contrast, Puka had 30 for 338 yards and 0 TDs IN HIS FIRST 3 GAMES!!! His first TD was week 4.
The draft is a total crap shoot. Always has been, always will be. QBs esp. If you don't have one, you are desperate to find 1. I promise you this much, of the 6 top QBs in this draft, 2 MIGHT become good to very good, 1 MIGHT become an adequate starter and 2 will be backups.
Why so many draft picks bust:
Injuries
Off the field stuff
Desire/dedication
intelligence (meaning football IQ)
being drafted by the right team/being put in a position to win
None of these things can be measured or tested for.
