Football was king when I was a kid in southern California back in the late '40's and '50's interest couldn't have been higher.
The Rams were just getting settled into their new home and they had the neatest helmets my nine-year-old eyes had ever seen. And the Rams had TWO quarterbacks - Norm Van Broclin and Bob Waterfield. And (drumroll........) Bob Waterfield had the prettiest wife (people got married in those days) of any football player ever.
I thought Mrs. Waterfield, Jane Russell, was prettier even than Marilyn Monroe. Still do.

There were a lot of Rams fans, then. Just like there are a lot of Chiefs fan now.
