No sample size. People comparing this to college isn't right. Because in college, you go back and forth on possessions after it's tied up.
In the NFL, both teams get possession of the ball once. Then after that, it's the first team that scores.
Shanny mentioned this after the game that their analytics told them that there are high odds that the first possession would end in a tie.
So to have the ball first on the third possession to win the game was more important.
I don't fault him for that.
49ers had a defense that could hold KC to a field goal.
And 49ers had an offense that marched down the field easily against KC.
Both kickers were bombing them from a distance.. so winning it on the 3rd possession has logic to it.
