To den-the-coach, USAF vet, and "54-40 Or Fight!" history-buff, from Canuck in Vancouver,
Agree 100% on prioritizing getting a long-overdue Pass Rush for 2024 by signing an accomplished ER vet, and then drafting the best possible ball-hawking CB with our First Round Pick!
Or in the words of this former Canadian Navy officer:
We need to waste our 2024 First Round Pick on a rookie QB, like we need a sucking chest wound!!
As stated by others, IF we can keep Matthew LaserArm Stafford erect and unbloodied, by actually assembling a formidable OL Room, via the Draft & reprising another Dotson-type pickup via trade or UFA-signing, then we can get another 2 or 3 seasons more out of our brilliant Franchise QB. But if we continue to waste precious Cap Dollars on porcelain dolls like Joe Noteboom and Brian Allen, and duds like Tremayne TwoPlays Anchrum, Zachary ThePylon Taylor, et al......then Stafford will continue to get beaten like a piece of veal at Nunzio's Ristorante!!! This myth about our "2023 OL being stellar" was not valid against the better Defenses like SF (not their JV season finale squad), Dallas, etc. We looked good against middling D's like Seattle, Zona, etc....but even against another middling D like the Lions, when it mattered most, McVay had to use passing trickery in the Red Zone repeatedly because we did not have the horses up-front to ram the ball into the End Zone.
Use the 2024 Draft to:
-get a quality CB early, and more DBs later with all those picks we have assembled (Yeast, JJIII, Fuller, Kendrick do not remind on of Meador, Cromwell, Elmendorf nor Monte Jackson IMHO);
-draft another ER early to push Michael (from Oakville, Ontario BTW) Hoecht (Hoecht wud look good in our 2024 DL, No?);
-find a bruising RB who can spell Kyren OverWorked Williams, and can pick-up a blitzing LB better than Zack Evans;
-forcus on & accelerate the Replace Higbee Program.....it's time for that now Mr. Snead!;
-continue to find WR diamonds-in-the-rough both in the Draft and procuring off other NFL rosters like Marcus Robinson.
Finally, I would advocate against drafting WRs who still buy their suits in the Boys Dept.....y'know the 155 lb types that are not really equipped to do the run-blocking Kupp, Puka and formerly Bobby Trees were called on to do in Sean McVay's scheme.
Sorry if the above opinions run couner to others here, but what I saw live at our stunning Seattle season opener at Lumen Field last September showed these old eyes just how effective Matthew Stafford can be when the OL protects him, and he surgically puts the ball into windows that absolutely confound an opposing Defense. Spend Draft Treasure and Cap Dollars on OL assets that protect our still highly capable Franchise QB!!
Cheers from Vancouver, BC!
