on this day in 1972 the Rams sent Deacon Jones(14/186/1961) to the Chargers for Jeff Staggs, Jim Bertelsen (2/30/1972), Cullen Bryant (2/31/1973), Tim Stokes (3/60/1973)....A bitter thing for Rams fans...but in his final three seasons Jones was subpar/well on the downside.... The stats (later compiled) show him with 159.5 sacks for the Rams but only with 14 in two years with the Bolts and one more with the Redskins...
And I bring this up because there will be a day...when, say, someone like Aaron Donald will move on....
Final Note: We know about Bertelsen and Bryant...Tim Stokes was a back lineman for the Rams for two seasons. In 1975 he was packaged with 6th and 8th rounder to the Redskins...for three 1978 picks: second, third, and fourth... and a 1979 5th round pick...that is value... The only problem is the only hit was Frank Corral 3/78/1978.....So when you think of Frank Corral...remember he is a product, ultimately, of the Deacon Jones trade that occurred on this day in 1972.
