It's not an impossible task, but the points in 9ers favor begin to line up
QB - is there an edge? not much
RB - CMC still has juice and way more experience. Something was off with David Montgomery in the TB game, he didn't look right. Gibbs is electric, but not an every down back.
TE's - Kittle > LaPorta, especially with LaPorta still a bit hobbled. Lions lost 2 tight ends in recent weeks, including Brock Wright in the TB game. They signed
Zach Ertz in desperation yesterday. I doubt he can mesh with the team this quickly, or has much of anything left.
WR's Amon-Ra St. Brown is a bad dude with a huge chip on his shoulder. Shifty and strong. Superb hands. But no hops and not fast. Not a big guy that can take over a game like a Justin Jefferson or Mike Evans.
Oline - both good, would be draw, but Lions lost a guard in the TB game, and the center Ragnow is running on baling wire and duct tape.
Dline - Clearly in SF's favor. The Lions can play run defense, but their pass rush is Hutch and that's it. The others are statues.
LBers - Lions are scrappy, 9ers are elite.
DB's - A lot more talent for the 9ers. Cam Sutton was playing great for Lions early season, but toe and foot injuries have destroyed his ability to cut and run. He's being torched game after game and it's almost unfair. Brian Branch rookie at nickle is outstanding tackler and great instincts but a bit grabby to make up for his lack of speed. Lions other CB Vildor belongs on a practice squad somewhere. In fact, that's where they got him.
Home field: 9ers
GRIT: Lions
History: 9ers
Coaching strategy: 9ers
Coaching inspiration: Lions
It just doesn't add up for the Lions without ball bounces their way or surprising performances.
Ramily!
