Michigan's D is very legit. Studs on all 3 levels. By far the best D Penix has seen in the last 2 years.
That said, I would be lying if I said it wasn't a bit concerning. But Washington lost their starting tailback early, and they were playing from behind all night.
He went 27 of 51 for 255 with 1 TD and 2 INTs
The thing about Penix is that he is a gunslinger, he has a cannon for an arm, knows he has a cannon for an arm and loves to push the ball down the field. He will throw ints. He is really accurate, but pressure seems to mess with his mechanics and you see what you saw in the NCG with all that Mich pressure.
He's a tough eval for me for 1 reason only: Medicals
ACL tears in 2018 and 2020, and shoulder joint injuries, 1 to each shoulder in 2019 and 2021. He's been healthy since 2022 (so 2 years...)
He gives off Stafford vibes to me. He's a leader, tough, a gunslinger that likes to push the ball down the field and very accurate in a clean pocket. Also not terribly mobile. They are both 6'-3" Penix is 215 lbs, Stafford was a bit heavier at 225 at the combine.
I can certainly see him going in the 1st, but if medicals drop him down the draft, I wouldn't be shocked either.
