McVay prefers Swiss Army knives to carving knives or cleavers.
He wants TE's that can block all the time when not in pattern, and when they're out, they should be like Jimmy Graham - big target, pass-catching receivers. He's dumped blocking tight ends who are limited receivers (Mundt) and receivers who can't block well (Everett.)
Let's face it - for all he criticism he receivesvon this board, Higbee fits the bill.
I'd have to see more of Allen's recent blocking to know how he's doing there. As some have said, he's "better" as a target, but does that make him "better" overall on the other fifty-odd downs when he's not in pattern?
