They used either the 5-2 base or 5-1 nickel fronts well over 90 percent of the time and the secondary stayed in what appeared to be a Cover3 umbrella for a like number.

they played, 2.8, 6 or 8 (have to look close ), 2, 6/8, 4, 4 and then goalline ... there no zero "cover3 umbrella" in that first drive.

It's a nice try, admire him for looking but he's not identifying the coverages right.

Oddly, Rams DO often rotate to Cover-3 .... but they didn't on the first drive.

But after someone gets all the plays wrong there is no reason to go on. These fan sites are good for some things, but when you couple it with his
preseason article

Long-time friend of Morris. Best-known for those “Legion of Boom” defenses of the Seattle Seahawks. His was a simple, time-tested 4-3 under defense with a Cover3 in the secondary and press coverage underneath it.

No. Not accurate. It was 3-buzz which does not have "press coverage underneath it"

Although keeping the Staley 3-4 as his “base” and quarters (Cover 4) pass coverage, Morris is a 4-3 man at heart and likes to mix in Cover 2 and 3. Without getting too deep in X’s and O’s, they are all high-shell coverages, relatively simple to run in their basic form, and can easily be built upon. Here’s a more in-depth and I think, a very good breakdown of the Rams Cover 3 and quarters defenses from the 3-4.

Fans have seen the Rams going with more 4 man fronts with one linebacker (over 60% in 2022), bringing in defensive backs for both the Cover 3 and quarters zones. If the Rams young safeties can show the requisite ball-hawking skills, Morris may use more Tampa 2 looks. But with the Rams lack of size on the defensive line, there will still be need for the 3-4 to help clog the middle and force the run game outside where it can be gang-tackled.

Just not accurate on so many things. It's just wrong on several levels. Simple to run in their basic form? the only good thing he does is link to Cody Alenxader and Cody is an expert. If you follow this guy's link to Match Quarters you can learn a lot. A ton. But Venie is not even close to gleaning knowledge from Coady.

Morris’ run defense tries to funnels the A & B gaps to the linebackers and the others to the outside and has been generally successful.
No. A and B-gaps are handled by the NT and 4i techniques. They gap-and-a-half it so the 4 gaps can be closed by 3 guys which is why it is a gap-and a 4. If it were one gap it would take 4 guys to cover the "A&B" gaps. He does not understand the defense at all.

Nice try though.

I know he's trying but he's not giving accurate information. He's kind of just using words that he has a basic understanding of.

This right here, is why the Lions loss was predictable
