I realize it was contractual, but no way Kraft put himself in a box he didn't want to be in.
Kraft understands that the generational gap between coach and players can only be so much.
And, he needs a guy that will NOT demand much control.
I'm sure Mayo will be a good coach because he's been well trained and Kraft is too smart to turn this team over to someone who isn't ready. And, communication is going to be much better, so he stands a better chance of getting through to these younger players and understanding their sensitivities and motivations as this rebuild progresses.
What is just as interesting to me is what this does for Vrabel. I doubt he gets any offers as an HC. DC perhaps. But he needs to be introduced to modern football because he seems to represent a philosophy that is closer to 90's football.
