Rookie agreements for drafted players in the NFL cannot be renegotiated until after the final regular-season game of the third contractual year. This means that the earliest a draft pick's contract can be renegotiated is in January of the fourth year of the contract. Undrafted rookies are not allowed to change their contracts until after their second season.
