Wilson had a golden ticket in Seattle - his entourage of personal trainer, coaches (OK so far) and his own exclusive office in team headquarters (What?)
Some players resented that latter largesse; some seemed to shrug it off.
He gave countless hours and dollars to the community, much of it unpublicized (as much as it could be,) and much of that directed at children's hospitals where he spent a lot of time as he could. Those hours visiting and encouraging and inspiring little children battling serious illnesses were not "Look at me!" photo-op moments. He was truly dedicated to bettering the lives of children with long-term horrible diseases.
Off to Denver. Sean Payton greets him by telling him to "Stop f--king kissing babies!"
Can you believe that? When I first read it, I was shocked - even coming from Sean Payton.
Wilson's play is on the decline and his contract is way, way too heavy, but nonetheless - according to one post above his stats still rank him in the top ten. When he has the tools around him, he can still win football games. I'm too tired to check - but are any of Denver's skill players ranked top ten?
Payton has been deceptively adroit at covering his own tracks since the Greg Williams/Payton pay-for-dirty-hits and injuries disgrace that should have got them both thrown out of the league for good. Payton threw Williams completely under the bus and barely escaped the wheel-tracks on his own back.
Wilson? Still a starting NFL quarterback and in the right system, could be a very good one. But with Wilson's values at odds with Payton's Denver is not a good fit.
