The guy was a DC for one year! covid year at that, I don't want him anywhere near the Rams.
It could be he's a smart guy but still was not a good head coach.
or it could be he was a smart guy on the leading edge of a new scheme that has taken the NFL by storm
the Fangio scheme. After a year of films to study, NFL offenses came up with answers
So he goes to Chargers and teams have him figured out. And the scheme that was once a huge advantage is
not long *as big* an advantage. That it is still viable, teams migrating to if left and right but that the Rams
under him did better than expected because only teams that had played the Bears, really, had seen it
a lot.
So, you have to ask ... was it him? or the scheme? And did the NFL catch up to the scheme?
I don't know the answer but the deification of Staley because of one great year is not realistic.
Too much tarnish came off in the last three years. Not only was he dubious as a coach
his defense was even more dubious
during his time with Chargers -- NFL rankings
31st points allowed
31st yards allowed
31st in rushing yards allowed
25th defensive passer rating
28th 3rd down conversions
Maybe he's just a good coach and not a boy wonder.
