McVay doing the right thing

Be optimistic as heck coach with the press and with the kid. What's the alternative? There is none.
Any negativity from McVay now won't help this kid succeed and if he really believes McVay is behind him, so much the better.
The proof will be in the pudding (or kicking, in this instance) regardless of what McVay does. So McVay's optimisim (even if
for external consumption only) is the right tactic on his part.
