I'll take your word for it; you really seem to understand these coverages so well.
Even so, I think make-up speed is critical for a FS. I think Fuller is more built like, and equipped to be, a SS.
I'll be curious to see if the Rams make a move there in the off-season.
so you have in-between-type-guys
Fuller is always on the left, Johnson always on the right---so if the formation is strong to offensive right (defensive's left) then Fuller is the
strong safety. if the formation is strong to the offensive left (defense's right) then Fuller is the free safety.
Same for Johnson III excpet the opposite. Before Johnson Yeast was always in the right, so he was both FS and SS.
Same for Scott and Rapp and so on-- with one small exception late in 2022.
Anyway, Rams have guys that can be both, so they are not as powerful as some SS types and they are no as rangy as maybe a pure FS.
All these guys from Johnson to Lake to Fuller to Scott to even Rapp (a little less so with him) are around same size, same speed
and that is one reason they play twin safeties rather than moving them.
So, agree, an upgrade to Fuller would be nice, but unless they change philispohy they are going to get the same kind of player. 5-11 to 6-1ish, 195-205ish pounds guys.
Maybe Taylor will be an upgrade speed wise next year -- he's a 4.5 so he's similar size but a bit faster...
