I have had a few experiences that help me relate to what Kupp might be going through. While recovering from a pulled leg muscle, I got back out on the basketball court too soon. There was a loose ball that I would have ordinarily been able to get with no problem, but the lingering injury messed up the timing and coordination between my eyes, legs, and hands. I had the impression that something like that might have been going on when Kupp recently struggled to make catches that he used to always make with near 100% reliability. The play in the end zone especially seems to be due to this factor. Several years ago, I had a bad case of sciatica that caused some nerve damage. I had to relearn how to walk by watching my left leg and foot and consciously making each step with that leg and foot. If he has nerve damage, I hope he retires from football in the interest of his long-term health. He has already left an indelible legacy as a football player. I would hope that his incredible season and Super Bowl performance would be enough to get him into the HOF.
