I'll say this for Prothro. He helped develop much of the roster that Knox inherited and turned into a division champion in his first year.

I remember many talking about how Prothro was instrumental in that roster development, which, then led to his hiring in San Diego. However, maybe Prothro would have been better in the front office as with the Chargers Prothro best record was 7-7 in 1977. Now I was a tad too you with Prothro being 5 & 6 during his tenure, but I do remember thinking he was not in the class of George Allen at the time.
