So I'm partially saying this to reverse-jinx us I will admit. But the secondary is the one problem I cannot get past right now. It is hard to see them getting it done well enough the rest of the way to climb out of this hole. Even with a weak sched.
Early this season they were excellent, playing over their heads and battling every snap with great discipline. But immediately following Kendrick's arrest they dropped off a cliff. Kendrick basically lost his job due to how poorly he was performing. Spoon (who tends to get burned when he draws a real wideout) became a target on top of that. And Durant has been dinged up.
Now I will admit that Lake has surprised me out there. But he's quite limited vs the more juiced slots out there, and also I'd rather see him moved into the primary safety pairing so we can see whether we need one or two of those guys this offseason. Because Fuller's gone in FA. And Yeast is decent at best so he's a guy they'll upgrade if at all possible.
IF we had a great pass rush I wouldn't be so negative about these guys, as I do think Durant's a good young corner and Spoon can be protected in scheme if the other parts are working. But the combination of a crappy rush means they're gonna have a rough go of it the rest of the way. Hoping I am wrong, however way I see it we're in evaluation mode at this point and every loss positions us better for a LT or QBotF.
I think that loss in Green Bay will be what did us in, when we look back on this season. I expect this team to trend back to .500 as we go forward but they're not gonna win enough straight so they will run out of road.
