I truly believe there was interest early, in fact, they met with him in March. However, IMO, the Rams decided to look for someone in the draft as the backup and then went with Stetson Bennett. Seemed logical, Bennett was older, coming off two National Titles and one might surmise the game would not be too big for him, but he was battling his demons.
So the mistake lied with after Bennett being put on the non football list, they should have pivoted at that time and signed Wentz. However, Brett Rypien is like most backup QB's. He is well spoken, a good teammate, prepares everyday and most likely gave them the appearance he could handle the job in the short term. He had done that with the Broncos, leading them to victory over Arizona, but most of us knew differently and Rypien soiled himself in Green Bay. So now the Rams had seen enough and IMO, might look at this situation as more then the remainder of the year.
