Shanahan and his QBs look great when they can contol both lines of scrimmage. It’s when the game goes off script that he’s forced to play catch up and you need a QB who can put the team on his shoulders.
He hasn’t had that as HC. But that’s by design, IMO. I realized they tried to trade for Stafford last year, but the Niners seem to allocate their cap to the front 7 on defense and the skill players on offense. But, they really haven’t had a pure WR. Deebo is a tweener and Aiyuk only this year has begun to run good routes.
It’s been fun watching how the league has caught on to the formula.
Too bad McVay is too stubborn to try what’s worked over the last three weeks. I mean, would it kill anyone if he had Raheem run a corner blitz a couple of times?
