Freeman has in-game quickness if not break away speed; knows when to make cuts, accelerates "right now" making a cut into a hole. When watching the Seattle game I was yelling at the TV, "Now, NOW!" when Akers had the ball and either didn't read, didn't anticipate, or was tentative about committing. It's as if he doesn't comprehend what he has to do behind a zone blocking scheme. Again, if I were a tech guru I'd paste together a few plays to show what I was seeing.
He sees holes, waits for his blockers in the open field, sets up blocks well - thaat is, he can hesitate or move in such a way as to make the defender commit one way, and then move the other way around the block. His field visionis good. He sees plays develop and responds accordingly.
He lacks lateral agility but can shake his shoulders and hips well enough to fake a defender, if not make a solid jump cut and change direction.
He's a decent receiver out of the backfield.
No idea how he'd be as a run blocker, and know nothing of his pass pro.
He'd be a good strong short yardage or third down back, with ability to follow blocking, get some oomph on contact, or swing out of the backfield for a pass. In other words, in my view, he's the kind of rotational-situational player we need. If Williams starts, I'm sure he'd have no philosophical problem splitting time with Freeman.
