Is itmmedia stir or money that drives the running back market?
When the players themselves put up a near-demonstration that says they are undervalued in terms of salary they receive, the media jumped on board.
The catch-22 (or trifecta catch-33) is an overstocked market with just a handful of elite players in a league that is pass oriented.
As OC's adjust to what DC's are doing to stop the passing game, teams with elite running attacks and elite backs will find a winning niche. As their approaches get copied, the elite running backs will be worth more money.
It will take a few years, but I remember when there weren't that many elite receivers. Now, every good team has at least one, maybe two or three. Back then every team had or wanted a great running back, and good teams had them, maybe two in the same backfield. Today you're seeing single setback sets almost exclusively, but that will change as the running game gets weaponized against pass-oriented defenses.
