Stetson Bennet is Johnny Manziel and he thrived when he was surrounded with superior talent. He did not have to be perfect to win. Rams are far from superior. Our OL is a work in progress and any other QB would have been cut even Wolford was cut and brought back. Who in the entire NFL is looking to snag Bennet. We are the only team that wasted a 4th round pick to overdraft a QB few expected to be drafted. Tell me how this is not a matter of McVay having a misguided concept of having a QB that can out smart everyone else and deliver everything that a super talented QB is expected to do but with out the superior talent. Wolford was not a talent only a beautify mind and he failed to prove McVay right.
Bennet is not the talent on the NFL level that he was in College and if this was College perhaps. It took him extra yrs to get to this point and he is far behind some QBs drafted behind him.
I find it interesting that we fell so in love with all of our picks that we had hardly any room for UDFs unlike the past.
I feel we did change the equation but perhaps the math is still wrong.
This is us falling in love with our decisions and we are willing to go down with them. Suppose we fail miserably how do we justify drafting Caleb Williams and having Bennet as our backup QB. Imagine the talent drop off especially when Matthew Stafford may think he should still have a chance to play. I see Bennet being cut so why not skip that? Cut him now or let him work his way up from the practice squad and earn it.
Rams have a plan but I think they also are falling for it and may be confused enough to think that the equation is the answer and not just a start.
I don't mind the draft, or the effort but I do mind if we lose sight of our goals building for the future. I don't think having bennet as our # 2 without earning it is a wise decision. McVay seems to handicap his favorites and convinces himself that he has a righteous cause. It is his Achilles.
