In 1975 it was $27.50 ( might have been $25.50 ) an hour for a Cessna 150 and the instructor. High school my senior year offered a ground school taught by a science teacher who was a FAA approved ground school instructor.
I passed the class didn't take the actual FAA test and didn't pursue my license. Class cost $50 and I have 3 1/2 hours of stick time.
I recall it was 40 hours of flying to get your license , so for another $1000 or so I could have .
Concerts were more important and not a lot of jobs for a long haired 19 year old flyer.
Sidenote reason I didn't take the FAA test is the feds put a new rule in 1975 that ground school instructors would have to be recertified with if a certain percentage of their students failed. Teacher told me I would be pass, I told him I didn't want risk his certification.
