Easy to tell who Avila is,even in a postage-stamp sized screen. Play low, wide base, hand position, and FEET. He's a study in whatever I know about line play. In this clip 99 moves him back but that's all. Not that it would go that way every time, but I'm impressed.

I'm glad the apparent plan is to put him at right guard and keep him there - develop him further in his best spot. Wendy is doing the same thing with Bruss. I remember Kromer's wanting every Oline player to play every spot, but it seemed to me that it became counterproductive after a while.

I remember also the disaster Martz made in taking an All American center who had never played tackle and making a tackle out of him. John Sinclair took a beating on this board for his failures at right tackle but never complained or cried a tear in public. He just kept trying to improve at something he wasn't good at.

Not everybody is a Shelton or an Anchrum, who can help at two positions. And not everybody is an Avila, who can but is outstanding in one spot.
