I agree Bennet was drafted to provide a decent backup QB for a couple of years and a very cap friendly price. Surely he will prove to be an upgrade over Perkins and Wolf.
Can he be a stop gap after Stafford retires? Maybe but that would be a huge boon though it might indicate we are really struggling at the QB position.
Off the top of my head I can think of 3 great QBs who came in with really low expectations: Warner, Brady and Montana. When Montana came in he was too small and didn't have that Pro QB arm yet he turned into a great Pro. Montana had a very productive college career just like Bennet. Could Bennet be that type of guy? I doubt it but it is not unheard of and at this point it is like having a lottery ticket before the big drawing. The odds are terrible but the hope is big.
Excellent post, Deacon.
QB’s are where you find them. An axiom that we often tend to forget.
And any QB tends to do better under gifted coaching, which Rams have.
So, let’s just wait and see where Bennett’s career takes him.
I will say this. I wouldn’t be betting against him at this point.
