Stafford was going anywhere as long as McVay is the HC.

IMO, the only way it would have even been considered is if Stafford wanted out and even then it would have been hard to move him but not impossible.

I am sure we would have gotten the worst of the trade for sure like we usually do when we move on from high priced players.

IMO, McVay and Stafford are tied together at the hip...for now.
