Can anyone explain how trading Stafford would have even been possible financially?

All these rumors about him being on the trading block, but from what I think I've read on here from Albany and others was that was not ever fiscally possible. Also, none of these rumor articles seem to mention who would be playing QB for us this year if we traded Stafford away. We were not in position to draft a QB and the talent of this class is questionable, from what I've read.
