I understand your point, kw, and it's a good one. No prob.
My take as to the shape we're in is a little different from a lot of people's. I think that last year had emotional/psychological/mental repurcussions that haven't yet been sorted out. We're still in shell-shock.
We talk at length about the OL injuries and their effect, but tend to lose sight of the significant injuries at every level of the D. When we look at the starting lineups for the Super Bowl and for our first game last year against Buffalo, there were differences, sure, but not differences we couldn't overcome had the team stayed reasonably together.
I can't imagine Kansas City sutaining the levels of injury that the '22 Rams did and winning more than five games.
I believe our current roster is stronger than it looks - partially because the cloud of perceptions based on the '22 calamity still hangs over us. True, we lack the capital (as you point out) to buy an immediate fix, but Trader Les may not - and quite likely isn't - done yet. And we may have some hidden gems in our draft class. It's not like we're in cap hell AND don't have a talented roster. At least I don't think so. We'll see when the players who are well take the field.
And who knows... if a scrappy young team built around some of the league's best players happens to mature late in the season and avoid the injury bug, we could go surprisingly far. We'll see when we play the games.
Nicely said, mt. You speak for a lot of us.
