I think it started in the 60s and the guy had experience as a strength coach with one or possibly more of the European Communist nations weightlifting teams. I'm not 100% sure but I believe that it was in Sports Illustrated. One of the players mentioned that a lot of the guys took the stuff but there are also a lot of them when they got the pill each time which just throw it into the bushes and not take it. I also remember somebody mentioning that they went on a championship run.
They were are The Pioneers in that kind of cheating.
They also did an article on the Steelers doctor that had purchased enough performance enhancing drugs to basically take care of 2000 patience or some ridiculous number and he didn't really have more than a few that would qualify for that that scandal got pushed under the rug pretty quickly. He resigned and that was the end of it.
