In 6 years McVay has never had more than 4 WR (except for 2022 with the injuries) get significant snaps. So a strategic change like that would be a first.
I do think who gets those 3rd WR snaps could evolve as the season progresses. But let's pump the brakes a little on this Nacua kid. Showing up well in some OTAs and earning 30-40 snaps per game in week 1+ are two very different things. The kid has potential, no question. Let's let him evolve and develop like every young WR.
McVay sure has been acting like he’s in the mood for several ‘departures’ this year, 93.
Less 11 personnel sets.
More 12 personnel sets
More physical OL
More emphasis on running game (LaFleur)
Finally got a decent backup QB
Hired significantly better coaches for secondary in Lake and Pleasant
Heck, he upgraded 11 assistant coaches from last years sorry group.
So, yeah, I’d say McVay is already progressing nicely on departures from last years methods. A temporary committee approach on usage of 3rd WR seems like a rather small thing in the larger context outlined above.
