In this area I think they're learning ...
Basically what I'm seeing from the past 6 years.
They have a guy they want as #1 ... but they haven't been willing to draft a second #1. They drafted Henderson in the 3rd when there were bigger backs available if Gurley couldn't maintain. Thing is, while you may be tempted to draft a"complimentary player" with a top 100 pick, you simply don't have to.
Fast forward, no we have Williams in the 5th and Evans in the 6th. That's more appropriate. But we still have no 2nd load carrier. So we go get a vet that can play in all phases should something happen to Akers.
I personally would have drafted Abanikanda over Stetson Bennett in the 4th, but that's me.
I would assume they look for a 2nd #1 guy next year even if they keep Akers. And keeping Akers, even after a good year, for a Miles Sanders type contract would likely make fiscal sense given our cap situation.
You can't have a huge dropoff after your #1. I like Sony. He can get you 100 yards in a pinch.
But the Bears have been the best IMO at replenishing the RB room. They draft well and manage well.
