A couple reasons I can think of:

So they didn't have to go thru the circus the Cowboys went thru with Adam.

To demonstrate in the most tangible way possible that Goff was their man. Sends a strong message to Goff and the rest of the team that the Rams were committed to winning. And I know it didn't lead to a SB win (at least not directly) ... but despite that I for one am happy that the Rams do whatever they think is necessary to get there.
