The nflpa would be on your side.
3 years for FA, 4th year option for first rounders.
Cut a year.
It's a 5-6 year career unless you're a freak.
Otherwise you have good backs that deserve to be paid getting crap deals or cut when they still have gas in the tank.
Case in point Dalvin Cook. You know he's a franchise RB year 3. Pay him starting year 4. Cut him after six if that's your thing.
Right now it looks like the giants want to run Barkley into the ground and not pay him for last year then let him wander in limbo ...
RB is the only position where a player can be all pro for 3 years and Cut the next at 26. It's insane.
Teams will take advantage of the rules because it's a business. That's their literal job.
