Cam and Swift: Pass, and pass.

April 28, 2023 11:14AM
I don't see either of them getting tough yardage inside. We need a back who can do that, and play all three downs (or split with Williams) when Akers gets hurt again.

Cam may be more physical than Swift, as you say, but not enough to make much difference from what I see. Swift has more jukes and runs better to daylight than Cam and has more speed. Neither is a good bet to stay healthy for the whole season - and neither has a rep for being a team-first player.

And... we don't know yet what all a healed-up Williams will bring. He's shown right well in pass pro at this level, like Swift (and unlike Akers) he sees the field and runs to daylight; he can catch out of the backfield. Slow 40 time is offset by real-time game speed. I'd like to see what he has - or if the coaches know, dump Akers and a low pick for a third-round pick this evening - or something like that.

McVay may be able to get the best out of Akers but for me that isn't enough. And my misgiving is that Akers' uppity me-first fragile ego would kick back in, and keep Williams and any back that would come into the room on the bench, or create more disgruntlement and cost the team games - again.

He's just Cam Akers in a different shade of blue, in my opinion
