“It is really tough to compare value between a 36 pick and on in the 5-10 range. I would expect that Hookers value will be greater in 2024 than it is during this draft. If things go terrible and we are in a position to pick on of the top 2 QB in next years draft we can still do that and most probably flip Hooker for an additional 1st rounder. Or if they really like Hooker after seeing him for a year they could just keep him. Either way I expect Stafford to be our QB in 2023 and 2024 and probably in 2025”.
For starters, a QB at 36 from a relatively weak QB class vs a top 5-10 pick from a strong QB class seems like no contest to me. And that’s before factoring in a possible trade up in ‘24 if warranted, and the value of that 5th year option. I mean, this seems like a no brainer.
Secondly, Hooker won’t even see the field other than mop up duty other than a Stafford injury in which case we’re screwed anyway. Meanwhile, a player like a McDonald or some other near-elite player at a position of screaming need would never be a Ram for next 10 years. An unrecoverable lost opportunity.
Hooker at 36 seems like forcing a ‘need’ pick to me at too great a cost.
The superior QB could be drafted in ‘24 and still enjoy learning from Stafford to springboard his career.
That’s my take, anyway.
