Re: Do Rams and Les Snead overvalue comp picks?

This article is very dumb. It doesn't factor money into the equation. Of course Saffold and Corbett are better than anyone we got with a comp pick, but those guys left for big contracts. So, we got picks for them AND cap space to get other players. We traded away a bunch of first round picks for All Pro players. We got to win with those players and when they left we got picks for them plus the cap space they left. The bigger problem than not resigning developed players to big second contracts is the dismal job we have done in drafting with our second round picks. Jefferson is meh, Akers has been a problem, Rapp couldn't cover. Tutu, although I like him is small. Second rounders should be very good players. Maybe not All Pro, but plus players.
Jefferson was so impressive that we added OBJ and then ARob. Akers never really beat out Hendu. Rapp has played, but never impressed. Tutu we shall see, but he was probably picked too early and the center we didn't pick is the best in the league. Unless you're picking on the top half of the first round you don't usually find All Pro players. Snead found Kupp in the third though. Scott was a tremendous pick in the seventh. Snead believes in having a bunch of lottery picks so he tries to trade down to get more shots at striking gold. Makes sense.
So far we have 11 picks. I bet he ends up with 15. And it seems like we do a very good if not great job of signing UFAs. Much of our depth are these guys. We could find another 8-10 guys who could make the roster from here.
We will also be players in the post draft regular FA market. There's a bunch of players who want a big contract but teams don't think they're worthy. They can still play but they are coming off injuries or lost their position to a younger player. Last season Snead signed Nseche and Skura off the scrap pile. They both performed pretty well. The year prior we signed Weddle out of retirement and he won us a SB. Heck, Kurt Warner's story coming out of nowhere was made into a feature film. And every season there are huge busts at the top of the draft. Greg Robinson? 1-2. Ouch. But 11 picks later, AD. Brady was picked in the sixth.
It's a guessing game. But, the more picks you have the better chance to get lucky.

Totally right, and fair game for criticism
